General John F. Curry Achievement Requirements - Achievement 1
New cadets are all trying to achieve their first promotion at the completion of their initial cadet training. This achievement is called the Curry Award and earns the cadet the promotion from Cadet Basic to Cadet Airman (C/Amn). Below is an outline of the requirements that they must
meet.
1. Leadership 1 Exam (Online exam based on Chapter 1 of the "Learn to Lead" book. 25 questions in 30 minutes - open book) CLICK HERE for a link to the Leadership 1 Exam. Wright Brothers Achievement - Completion of Phase One of the CAP Cadet Program
Cadet Senior Airmen are trying to achieve their fourth promotion. This achievement is called the Wright Brothers Award and earns the cadet the promotion from Cadet Senior Airman (C/SrA) to Cadet Staff Sergeant (C/SSgt). This is the beginning of the cadet's Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) duties. Achieveing the Wright Brothers Award means the completion of Phase One (out of five) of the CAP Cadet Program. Below is an outline of the requirements that they must meet.
1. Leadership: Pass a comprehensive exam called the Wright Brothers Exam, with a grade of 80% or higher, closed-book, untimed. This test includes 50 questions. The first 30 questions are multiple choice questions and the next 20 consist of a section testing performance in drill and ceremonies.
2. Aerospace Education: There is no aerospace education requirement for this achievement.
3. Cadet Physical Fitness Test (CPFT) - Timed mile run or shuttle run, pass 2 out of 3 of sit-ups, push-ups, sit and reach. Quantity based on the President's Physical Fitness challenge by age and gender. For specific results required, please see the "Stripes to Diamonds" page or click here.

Cadet Technical Sergeants are trying to achieve their sixth promotion. This achievement is called the Lindbergh Award and earns the cadet the promotion from Cadet Technical Sergeant (C/TSgt) to Cadet Master Sergeant (C/MSgt). Below is an outline of the requirements that they must meet.
1. Leadership 5 Exam (Online exam based on Chapter 5 of the "Learn to Lead" book. 25 questions in 30 minutes - open book) CLICK HERE for a link to the Leadership 5 Exam. You will have to log in to eServices with your CAPID and password, but you will be taken right to the exam section. Once there, read the instructions on the page and click on "Leadership Chapter 5 Test." After that, there will be a pop-up box where it will ask you to agree to take the test yourself (no cheating) and click on "Take Test." Then all you need to do is click on "Start Leadership 5 Test." When you finish, you will know immediately if you passed. Follow all instructions! Remember to click "Finish" when you are done, so your score is recorded. If necessary, a paper exam may be administered at the squadron with permission from the Squadron Commander.
2. Aerospace Education Exam (Online exam based on any chapter of the Aerospace 2nd Edition book). Cadets may study any chapter they choose and take the corresponding test online. For example: if you choose to read and study chapter 4, make sure you
take the Aerospace 2nd Edition Module 4 Test. Of course, you are welcome to study the chapters in order if you wish. CLICK HERE for a link to the Aerospace Exams. You will have to log in to eServices with your CAPID and password, but you will be taken right to the exam section. When you finish, you will know immediately if you passed. Follow all instructions! 4. Drill Exam - Drill a flight/element using the following commands:
-FALL IN, Dress Right DRESS, Ready FRONT, Right FACE, Forward MARCH, Column Right MARCH, Close MARCH, Extend MARCH, Change Step MARCH, Count Cadence COUNT, Flight HALT, Left Step MARCH, Left FACE, Open Ranks MARCH, Close Ranks MARCH, Column of Files From the Right Forward MARCH, Flight HALT, FALL OUT.
5. Character Development Class - Typically the 2nd weekly cadet meeting of every other month.
6. Participate actively in unit activities
7. Board of Review - Cadet will formally report to Leadership Officers in a private meeting. Cadet will be asked:
- to recite the Cadet Oath from memory (can be found in Chapter 1 of the Learn to Lead book - see file above)
- to recite the 3 missions of Civil Air Patrol from memory (Cadet Programs, Emergency Services and Aerospace Education)
- to recite and translate the CAP Motto - "Semper Vigilans" (Always Vigilant)
- Cadet's progress will be discussed with the cadet and a decision on whether the cadet qualifies for promotion or requires additional time and training.
